This pilot season, casting directors will view thousands of self-tapes.

How do you stand out from the crowd?

What’s your plan for executing extraordinary work? How will you elevate the material and showcase your fullest potential?

Stand-out performances require mining your own instinct, personal artistry, and imagination.

This is the work.

The Curiosity Group, dedicated to exploring and developing new perspectives on actor training, launches their programming platform with this inaugural two-day workshop co-taught by Los Angeles based actors and acting teachers Desean Terry (The Last Acting Studio) and Hugh O’Gorman (The PraXis Acting Studio).

Imagery and Releasing the Actor's Intuition” centers the actor in their own idiosyncratic artistic process, stimulating the creative spirit and providing a variety of techniques designed to enhance the actor’s relationship to their own inner life in service of artistic transformation.

The workshop, designed for professional, immediate real-world application, plays out at the intersection of actor’s imagination, breath, and kinesthetic experience, primarily drawing from the established pedagogies of Constantin Stanislavski and Michael Chekhov, whom Stanislavski called “my most brilliant student”, but also incorporating other non-traditional methodologies, including but not limited to, Mindfulness and Contemplative Practices, all reimagined by Terry and O’Gorman for the 21st-century professional actor.

Work will include Psychological Gesture, Imaginary Body, and sourcing personal imagery in direct application to text.

This workshop will be the first in a series centering the actor in their own creative process while celebrating the powers of curiosity, imagination, and playfulness. By fusing diverse disciplines and new perspectives, Curiosity Group workshops are designed to build a modern, intersectional approach to actor-training.

“The highest and final aim of every true artist, whatever his particular branch of art, may be defined as the desire to express himself freely and completely.”

-Michael Chekhov
